Appointments

How do I schedule an appointment?

Appointments can be requested by calling Sound Dermatology at 785-465-5007. A member of our office will assist you in scheduling your visit.

You may also complete the form on our Request an Appointment page. After submitting the form, new patients will receive an email with instructions to set up their patient portal after registration. Once your portal is set up, you may request an appointment date and time through the portal.

Established patients may request appointments directly through the patient portal.

Is Sound Dermatology currently accepting new patients?

Yes. Sound Dermatology is currently accepting new patients and looks forward to serving individuals and families in Abilene, Kansas and the surrounding communities.

Appointmernts are expected to begin in April/May 2026.

Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?

In most cases, a referral is not required to schedule an appointment. Patients are welcome to contact our office directly. However, some insurance plans may require a referral from a primary care provider. Patients should check with their insurance company if they are unsure.

What should I bring to my appointment?

To help ensure your visit goes smoothly, please bring:

  • A valid photo ID

  • A list of current medications

  • Any relevant medical records or biopsy results

  • Your preferred form of payment

During Your Visit

What happens during my first visit?

During your first visit, your provider will review your medical history and discuss your skin concerns. A focused skin examination will be performed, and your provider will discuss possible diagnoses and treatment options. If necessary, additional testing or procedures may be recommended.

How early should I arrive for my appointment?

New patients are encouraged to arrive 10–15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time to allow time for check-in and any necessary paperwork.

Established patients should plan to arrive a few minutes early to ensure a smooth check-in process.

If you are running late or need to reschedule your appointment, please contact our office as soon as possible.

What skin conditions do you treat?

Sound Dermatology evaluates and treats a wide range of dermatologic conditions, including:

  • Acne

  • Eczema

  • Psoriasis

  • Rashes and dermatitis

  • Skin infections

  • Warts

  • Skin tags and other benign skin growths

  • Suspicious moles and skin lesions

Do you perform skin biopsies?

Yes. Skin biopsies can be performed in the office when necessary to help diagnose certain skin conditions or evaluate suspicious lesions. Your provider will explain the procedure and discuss what to expect before performing the biopsy.

How long does it take to receive biopsy results?

Biopsy results are typically available within four weeks. Once results are received, our office will contact you to discuss the findings and any recommended next steps.

Will my skin lesion/mole need to be biopsied?

Not all moles or skin lesions require a biopsy. During your visit, your provider will examine the area and determine whether a biopsy is necessary based on the appearance of the lesion and your medical history.

If a biopsy is recommended, the procedure can usually be performed in the office. The area is numbed with local anesthetic, and a small sample of skin is removed and sent to a pathology laboratory for evaluation.

Your provider will explain the procedure beforehand and answer any questions you may have.

Cost and Payments

How much does a visit cost?

Sound Dermatology currently operates as a direct-pay clinic, meaning patients pay for services at the time of their visit rather than billing insurance.

This model allows us to provide transparent pricing and simplified care without the delays and administrative complexities often associated with insurance billing.

A full list of visit and procedure pricing can be found on our Cost of Services page.

While Sound Dermatology currently operates on a direct-pay basis, we plan to explore participation with select insurance plans in the future.

Many patients find that the cost of direct-pay visits is comparable to or lower than typical insurance deductibles or specialist co-pays.

Do you accept insurance?

Sound Dermatology currently operates as a direct-pay clinic and does not bill insurance directly.

Patients are responsible for payment at the time services are rendered. Upon request, we can provide documentation that may be submitted to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement, depending on your individual plan.

Although Sound Dermatology operates as a direct-pay clinic, prescriptions may be processed through your insurance at the pharmacy, and laboratory testing and pathology (biopsy analysis) are typically billed to your insurance by outside providers.

We plan to explore participation with select insurance plans in the future.

Many patients find that direct-pay pricing is comparable to or lower than typical insurance deductibles or specialist co-pays.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept several forms of payment, including cash, credit cards, debit cards, and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is due at the time services are rendered unless prior arrangements have been made.
